Innovation at Gantner Instruments
We innovate measurement
Since 1982, Gantner Instruments has engineered data acquisition systems for the most demanding test and measurement requirements — in aerospace, mobility, and energy, among others. This page traces the products, platforms, and ideas behind that record: not who we are as a company, but what we have built — from the first e.bloxx I/O module to an AI-ready DAQ platform.
For our company history, locations, and culture, see Who we are.
The Product Innovation Timeline, 2004–2026
2004 – e.bloxx
Gantner Instruments’ data acquisition journey began with e.bloxx — the first generation of modular I/O modules that established the distributed, DIN-rail-based measurement architecture the company builds on to this day.
2009 – Q.bloxx
The Q.bloxx family succeeded e.bloxx as Gantner’s next-generation modular I/O platform, extending the distributed architecture with higher precision and a broader range of measurement types.
2017 – Q.monixx
With Q.monixx, Gantner brought edge intelligence to monitoring applications: a smart edge device combining universal analog and digital inputs with local data logging and preprocessing — built for reliable, autonomous operation in long-term asset and condition monitoring.
2018 – Q.series X
Q.series X is the next generation of the Q.series Classic — with more powerful signal conditioning, flexible interfaces and form factors, higher ADC and data rates, distributed and daisy-chained setups, live reconfiguration, and custom connector options.
2018 – GI.bench
Software follows hardware: with GI.bench, Gantner Instruments moved DAQ software into the web browser. Configuration, multi-frequency data logging, online analysis, and dashboard visualization run on one platform — accessible from any device, with no client installation. Open interfaces such as a modern API, OPC UA, MQTT, DDS (Data Distribution Service), and WebSocket data streaming connect measurement data to any third-party application.
2019 – GI.cloud
With GI.cloud, Gantner extended the DAQ platform into the cloud: an adaptive platform combining high-resolution measurement, big data analytics, and scalable data services — presented together with Gantner’s edge computing devices for distributed monitoring applications.
2020 – Q.series X slimline extension
Maximum channel density in minimum space: with the slimline extension, Q.series X moved into the 19-inch rack. The 1U form factor brings the full signal conditioning and precision of the module family to densely packed test benches — complementing bloxx for the DIN rail, the portable brixx, and the 3U raxx.
2022 – Q.core
Q.core marked Gantner’s step into high-performance streaming data architecture: a Linux-based controller that consumes data streams from multiple distributed Q.station X controllers the moment they are generated — storing, processing, and visualizing them through a built-in web frontend. Deployed in demanding applications such as continuous strain monitoring on the JT-60SA experimental fusion reactor in Japan.
2023 – Power Analyzer GPA series with Q.boost
With the GPA series, Gantner combined precision DAQ with real-time power analysis. A noise floor below −140 dB and total harmonic distortion of less than 3 ppm set the benchmark for signal fidelity, while 4 MHz sampling per channel captures fast-transient signals in e-drive and inverter testing — delivering power, efficiency, and power quality parameters in real time via EtherCAT, fully integrated with GI.bench.
2023 – Wireless sensor integration
Measurement without the cable drum: with the integration of wireless sensors such as Nemi Struct into the Gantner data ecosystem, GI.bench and GI.cloud handle logging, visualization, and alarming for wireless nodes alongside wired channels. Where cabling is impractical or costly, wireless sensors are installed in a fraction of the time and bridge long distances — opening up measurement points on large structures that wired setups cannot reach economically.
2024 – High-voltage DAQ up to 1,500 V
Answering the rise of electrified testing: the Q.series X A12x Plus modules extended safe, isolated measurement capability up to 1,500 V — for battery, inverter, and power electronics testing, where higher voltage limits directly impact the safety and performance of operations.
2024 – Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy
With the all-in-one EIS solution built on the Q.series X A193 module, online electrochemical impedance spectroscopy became part of the DAQ platform — scalable up to 128 channels, bringing deep insight into the state of batteries, fuel cells, and electrolyzers.
2024 – Integrated fiber-optic sensing
Measuring with light: through the integration of chip-based fiber-optic sensing, e.g. with PhotonFirst, strain, temperature, pressure, and displacement are captured over an optical fiber as thin as a human hair — up to 64 FBG sensors on 8 optical channels, immune to electromagnetic interference, ideal for long distances and high sensor density.
2025 – GI.bench next generation
The largest GI.bench update to date redefined the software: the Measurement Explorer centralized data management, synchronized video logging added visual context to every measurement, integrated Python scripting opened the platform for automation and advanced analysis, and new WebSocket streaming technology delivered up to 20 times faster data streams — with one-click pairing to GI.cloud.
2025 – Q.solid
Built for the harshest outdoor environments: with Q.solid, rugged, distributed data acquisition moved into the field. A rugged IP66 housing, long-distance UART communication, and combined data and power through M12 connectors enable reliable long-term operation on bridges, dams, and remote structures — fully compatible with every Q.series I/O module.
2025 – Turnkey measurement systems
From components to complete solutions: with turnkey measurement systems, Gantner delivers fully integrated, tested, and documented DAQ cabinets — engineering, system integration, and lifetime support from a single source, for test benches and monitoring installations worldwide.
2026 – The AI-ready DAQ platform: full MCP access with GI.bench V1.19
Gantner opened its DAQ platform to the AI era: GI.bench V1.19 introduces full Model Context Protocol (MCP) access, letting AI assistants configure systems, diagnose faults, and analyze data through natural language. Machine learning models for anomaly detection run directly on Q.station and Q.core. Data analysis becomes a conversation, not a scripting task.
2026 – Acoustic Emission (AE)
Hearing damage before it becomes visible: acoustic emission detects active damage mechanisms such as crack initiation and material fatigue in real time. Through seamless integration of AE and time-series data into one platform, AE events are precisely time-synchronized with strain, vibration, temperature, and load — one unified, coherent monitoring architecture
