The Open Rotor engine project is part of the Clean Sky* Sustainable and Green Engines (SAGE) programme, a 50% European Union-funded, multi-partner activity aimed at lowering fuel consumption and emissions through more efficient aero engine architectures.
The data acquisition system can record, display and process up to 1000 different parameters, varying from pressures, flow rates, frequencies and temperatures. The flexible system concept allows for mixing Q.raxx and Q.staxx modules, depending on where they are installed inside the test cell.
Great to see how the full-scale Geared Pusher Open Rotor is tested at Safran Aircraft Engine’s new open air test facility:
* Clean Sky is the most ambitious aeronautical research programme ever launched in Europe. Its mission is to develop breakthrough technologies to significantly increase the environmental performances of airplanes and air transport, resulting in less noisy and more fuel-efficient aircraft, hence bringing a key contribution in achieving the Single European Sky environmental objectives.

Force monitoring improves efficiency of Airbus’ Final Assembly Line
In November 2016 the Airbus A350-1000 flew for the very first time. The A350-1000 is part of the A350 XWB family and is Airbus’ largest and most powerful twin-engined airliner ever. Airbus began the assembly of the A350-1000 in September, 2015, less than a year after the first delivery of the A350-900. For maximum flexibility, the existing A350 XWB Final Assembly Line (FAL) can be used for both A350-900 and A350-1000 models.

After 9 years in construction, the stellarator (nuclear-fusion machine) of the Max Planck Institute in Greifswald generated plasma for the first time on December 10, 2015. The reactor had been gradually ramped up over the past 12 months. The event was given extensive coverage in the media. Gantner Instruments specially developed sensors for temperature and strain measurement for the project, which are otherwise unavailable on the market.
