The Fastest EtherCAT Module with High-Voltage Inputs for Loop Control Applications

The Q.series X A122 module was specially developed for meeting the demands of loop control applications in the high-voltage area for e-mobility in the automotive industry. At present, the A122 is the fastest EtherCAT module on the market for this dedicated job. It offers two analog inputs. One input is typically for measuring the phase voltage up to 1,200 V, and the second is for measuring the phase current with an external shunt. The high galvanic isolation allows a continuous potential shift of 1,200 V between the channels and the rest of the electronics, power supply, and CPU/communication. With its symmetric input channel design with up to ±1200 V, it is also reverse polarity protected. Minimizing group delays is vital for a high-quality loop control function. The A122 is equipped with a specialized 18-bit SAR ADC per channel to avoid any latency impact.

The module is available for DIN rail, 19” 3U, and Q.brixx for portable applications.

 

What is SAR ADC?

The method of Successive Approximation Register – SAR is a method used in A/D converters for converting the analog signal into a digital signal. It is based on the comparison of the analog input voltage with a reference voltage. In successive approximation, the comparison is made step by step and is repeated continuously, whereby the reference voltage is changed so that it increasingly approaches the input voltage. Unlike a sigma-delta ADC, the SAR architecture doesn’t have latency. The relatively high sample rate and zero-latency make the SAR ADC suitable for loop control applications.
