Gantner Instruments and PhotonFirst Sign MoU

Gantner Instruments and PhotonFirst have signed an MoU to advance fiber optic sensing technologies. This partnership focuses on innovative measurement solutions.

Gantner Instruments and PhotonFirst Sign MoU for Partnership in Advanced Testing and Monitoring Solutions

Gantner Instruments and PhotonFirst Technologies are excited to announce their new partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding. This collaboration represents a commitment to delivering integrated solutions that harness the strengths of both companies’ technologies. By merging electrical and fiber-optic sensing into a unified data acquisition system, the partnership aims to deliver enhanced precision and reliability across a range of challenging testing and monitoring applications.

A Commitment to Innovation and Excellence

Both Gantner Instruments and PhotonFirst are recognized leaders in measurement technologies. This MoU is a major step toward leveraging their combined expertise to create cutting-edge solutions that meet the evolving demands of the industry.

PhotonFirst brings over 18 years of experience in fiber-optic sensing, specializing in applications that measure temperature, strain, pressure, and shape. Their innovative approach to integrated photonics results in solutions that are not only smaller and faster but also more cost-effective, without sacrificing performance.

Synergy of Electrical and Fiber-Optic Sensing

PhotonFirst’s fiber-optic sensors, utilizing fiber Bragg grating (FBG) technology, are designed to excel in harsh environments where traditional sensors might struggle. These sensors offer high precision and are immune to electromagnetic interference, making them ideal for critical applications such as high-voltage battery testing or measurements in ATEX zones.

Unlike conventional point sensors, fiber-optic sensors provide distributed measurements along the entire length of the fiber, enabling detailed health monitoring of large structures like wind turbine blades, helicopters, aircraft wings, bridges and pipelines.

The integration of PhotonFirst’s fiber-optic solutions into the Gantner Instruments ecosystem will significantly enhance its data acquisition capabilities. This integration will be supported by Gantner Instruments’ powerful software platforms, including GI.bench and GI.cloud, as well as a variety of open interfaces such as EtherCAT, Modbus, OPC UA, and MQTT.

Jan-Jurien de Rijck, Commercial Director at PhotonFirst, emphasizes, “Incorporating our fiber-optic technology into Gantner Instruments’ offering will add a lot of value to our customers and open up new opportunities being able to use advanced data acquisition solutions that meet the highest standards of performance and adaptability.”

The MoU between Gantner Instruments and PhotonFirst represents a significant step forward in the field of advanced testing and monitoring.
