Gantner Instruments delivers DAQ system to the Technical University of Denmark – DTU

Gantner Instruments is proud to announce that is has delivered it’s Q.series Data Acquisition System to the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) for their Villum Center for Advanced Structural and Material Testing (CASMaT). The center is a collaboration between DTU Civil Engineering, DTU Mechanical Engineering and DTU Wind Energy with the objective to strengthen experimental research in mechanics of structures and materials. A large donation from VILLUM FONDEN made it possible to establish the center.

Amongst others, a Q.bloxx DAQ system has been supplied for DTU’s Large Scale Facility. The Large Scale Facility on DTU’s Risø Campus is designed for static and fatigue testing of major structures, such as wind turbine blades. With a surface area of 59 x 27 metres and a height of 13 metres, the Large Scale Facility holds three test stands in different sizes where up to 49-metre long wind turbine blades (used for medium-sized wind turbines) can be pulled and twisted in any direction. A hydraulic loading system will be used to apply loads in flap and edge-wise direction to simulate operational conditions. The Q.bloxx DAQ system will be used to acquire data from up to 300 measurement points along the blade, primarily strain gauges.

DTU Wind Energy chose the Gantner Instruments Q.series Data Acquisition system for blade structural monitoring during static and fatigue testing after seeing it in full operation at Blade Test Centre A/S (BLAEST) and thanks to the flexibility, versatility and reliability that the system has shown during a free trial period. Moreover DTU Wind Energy highly appreciated the professional support offered by Gantner Instruments to develop non-standard applications suitable for a research environment. Testing is performed in cooperation with our Danish partner IPC Teknik ApS.
