Interested in System Integration Testing but don’t know what Gantner products are best for you? Our engineers can quickly help you personalize a Q.series X DAQ system around your needs.

System Integration Testing (SIT) is necessary to check and confirm aircraft systems’ correct integration and operation under simulated flight conditions. The System Integration Test Rig (SITR) is a mockup for developing and validating the system and software functioning with preproduction/production components installed on the aircraft. Therefore, SIT demands highly customized and complex test benches capable of performing Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) tests. The modular and flexible design of Q.series X DAQ systems, in combination with open interfaces for customized integration, ensures the possibility to adapt to any test case, reducing technical and schedule risks of the development and validation program.

The Iron Bird rig, also known as a Hardware-in-the-Loop simulator, is a full-scale mock-up of an aircraft. It is the primary test tool for the integration and endurance testing of all flight control and critical subsystems on the ground. Test data is gathered through various sensors, measuring displacement, strain, hydraulic pressure, and temperature, amongst others.
The main purpose of the Flight Control System (FCS) test rig is to verify and validate the primary (ailerons, rudders, and elevators) and secondary (spoilers, flaps, and slats) flight controls, including integrated testing of fly-by-wire flight control systems. Properties like displacement, acceleration, and strain characterize the mechanical behavior of the control surfaces.
Environmental Control System (ECS) or Air Management System is a generic term used in the aircraft industry for equipment providing temperature, humidity, ventilation, and pressure control to passenger/cargo areas. Temperature, pressure, and flow data acquired during ground testing are used to evaluate thermal comfort, pressurization, and cabin air quality.
According to statistics, landing gears play a major role in aircraft failure. A landing gear retraction test is an endurance test to validate the correct functioning of an integrated landing gear system under simulated aerodynamic loading over some time. Data is gathered for monitoring hydraulic system performance, landing gear operating speed, and shimmy vibration, among others.
The latest generation airplanes are known as More Electric Aircraft (MEA) due to their electricity usage for key aircraft equipment. Aircraft representative testing is paramount to optimizing and validating critical electrical systems. The Electrical System Integration Test Rig, also known as eSITR or Copper Bird, is a test bench to test and validate onboard electrical systems under simulated conditions.

Why Gantner Instruments

Flexible Mixed-Signal Data Acquisition

Q.series X is a mixed-signal, multi-channel data acquisition solution offering a versatile range of I/O modules. You can measure voltage, current, displacement, force, strain, vibration, sound, temperature, counters, and more. With this maximum sensor flexibility, the DAQ system can be easily adapted to the demanding requirements of system integration testing.

Distributed and Synchronized DAQ

Due to the size of the full-scale system integration test rigs, long sensor cable runs sometimes seem unavoidable. Q.series X modules provide the perfect solution in installations where multiple signals are widely dispersed and require simultaneous sampling and comparison (less than a microsecond), reducing cable clutter and being user-friendly. Also, measurements are less prone to noise due to short sensor cables.

Universal Connectivity

A wide variety of data communication interfaces, such as EtherCAT and IoT protocols like OPC UA, MQTT, and DDS, are available for seamless integration between flight computers, flight control systems, flight simulators, reaction loading systems, and data acquisition systems. Plugins & drivers for LabVIEW, MATLAB, and Python, among others, enable advanced data analysis and reporting.

Avionics Bus Integration

Q.series X can decode, display and log data from standard avionic bus systems. Each channel from the avionics bus is fully synchronized with the measurement data and recorded to a single file, providing the capability for avionics integration testing where the interaction of avionics with the actual flight control and utility systems can be validated.

Advanced Test Automation

The Q.series X programmable automation controller (PAC) brings test engineers a high-performance test automation and control solution for their system integration test rig, running stand-alone without a PC. When using the test.con graphical programming environment, it is possible to set up test sequences, mathematical functions for complex alarm and event handling, automated actions, and even high-speed closed loop (PID) control.
